The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-2) has arrested three top terrorists, including a juvenile gang member, during operations in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Selim Ashrafi, alias Chua Selim, alias Chora Selim, a notorious drug dealer and terrorist from Geneva Camp; Joy, the second-in-command of the juvenile gang “Mahi Group” based in Chand Udyan; and Md Ratan, alias Boma Ratan, a listed terrorist.
RAB-2 Commanding Officer Additional DIG Naimul Hasan disclosed these details during a press conference held at the RAB-2 office in Bosila on Friday at approximately 11:30am.
According to the RAB-2 chief, Chua Selim is accused in 36 cases. He had been absconding for a long time with active arrest warrants in murder and narcotics cases. Acting on intelligence regarding his presence in a secret hideout inside Geneva Camp, a RAB-2 team conducted a raid on Thursday.
During the operation, RAB arrested Chua Selim and seized a 7.65-bore foreign pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and 110 grams of heroin from his possession.
RAB claims that Chua Selim had been controlling and patronising various criminal activities, including drug trading, mugging, murder, and violent clashes in Geneva Camp and adjacent areas. He was previously arrested by RAB-2 in the Dhanmondi area on 8 January last year.
In a separate operation, another team of RAB-2, acting on intelligence, conducted a drive in Bijli Moholla under Mohammadpur Police Station to arrest Boma Ratan. He is a listed criminal with 20 cases against him, including charges of robbery, dacoity, mugging, and arms offences.
According to RAB, Boma Ratan had long been leading armed gangs involved in robbery and mugging across Gaznabi Road, Bosila, and Geneva Camp. Law enforcement forces had previously detained him with sharp weapons from the Gaznabi Road area on 19 February 2022.
Additional DIG Naimul Hasan said legal procedures against the arrested individuals are currently underway. He added that operations are continuing to apprehend their associates based on information obtained from the suspects.
