The trophy for the HBL Pakistan Super League 11 was unveiled in Karachi on Thursday. The ceremony took place at the National Bank Stadium. The event marked the start of a new chapter for Pakistan’s top T20 league.
HBL PSL Chief Executive Officer Salman Naseer attended the event. Representatives from all eight teams were also present. Officials from title sponsor HBL, members of Hanif Jewellers and media representatives joined the ceremony.
Hanif Jewellers designed and made the new trophy. Eighteen master artisans worked on it by hand. They spent more than 2,600 hours to complete the work. The design shows the journey and growth of the league over the last ten years.
The base of the trophy holds eight emerald cut gemstones. These stones show the colours of the eight PSL teams. They also reflect the pride of the cities the teams represent.
The tall shape of the trophy stands for discipline, determination and teamwork needed to win the title. At the top sits the Crescent and Star. It reflects unity, hope and national pride.
The trophy also carries more than 1,600 gemstones. The stones highlight the fine work and detail that went into making it.
Speaking at the event, Salman Naseer said the moment was special for the league.
“This is a historic occasion for the HBL Pakistan Super League,” he said. “We step into a new era after successfully completing 10 seasons.”
He said the league has grown stronger with time.
“Over the years, the league has grown stronger with the addition of new teams,” he said. “There have been record breaking player auctions and major broadcast deals. We have also seen huge support from fans across Pakistan and around the world.”
Naseer also thanked the partners of the league.
“We are grateful to HBL for standing with the Pakistan Super League from day one,” he said. “They played a vital role in its success.”
“I would also like to thank our franchise owners for their continued trust and commitment,” he added. “And thanks to Hanif Jewellers for crafting a magnificent trophy that reflects the prestige and ambition of this league.”
The 11th season of the PSL will feature eight teams. A total of 44 matches will take place across six venues.
The opening match will see defending champions Lahore Qalandars face Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26.
