An inmate named Abdul Khalek, 65, died at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj late Wednesday night.
He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:30am on Thursday, where doctors declared him dead.
Quoting the attending doctor, Dhaka Medical Police Camp In-charge Inspector Md Faruk confirmed the death, saying prison guards brought him to the hospital in an unconscious condition.
After examination, the doctor declared him dead and the body was kept at the morgue for post-mortem, he said.
He added that Abdul Khalek was in custody as a convicted prisoner, although details of his case were not immediately available.
His father’s name was the late Kofil Uddin and his prisoner number was 6718/A, police said.
