The scheduled first district visit of newly-elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to his home district of Thakurgaon has been postponed.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Rafiqul Haq confirmed the development to TIMES.
Earlier, a letter sent on Monday from the Protocol Branch of the President’s Office to the Thakurgaon district administration had stated that the president would make a two-day visit to Thakurgaon on 30 and 31 August.
The administration was also instructed to make necessary administrative preparations, accommodation, and transport arrangements.
However, postponement of the tour was announced on Tuesday, meaning the president’s first district visit will not take place for the time being.
The upcoming visit of the president to his home district had generated immense enthusiasm and interest among the local people. The local administration had also been making various preparations for the trip.
No details have yet been provided regarding the rescheduled dates for the president’s visit to Thakurgaon.
