Bangladesh Police is set to revert to its traditional uniform colours, cancelling the changes introduced during the interim government.
According to a decision by Police Headquarters, the iron-coloured uniforms will be replaced with light olive and deep blue shirts paired with khaki pants.
Under the new directive, light olive shirts will be reintroduced for all metropolitan police units. Deep blue shirts have been designated for all other units, with the exception of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn), Special Police Battalion (SPBn), Special Branch (SB), Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).
Khaki twill pants will be used across both categories.
The move follows a letter sent from Police Headquarters to the Ministry of Home Affairs on 15 April, which was made public on Monday.
The letter, signed by Additional DIG (Logistics) Md Sarwar Jahan on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), requested the Senior Secretary of the Home Ministry to issue a notification amending or supplementing the Police Dress Rules 2025.
The correspondence noted that the previously introduced iron-coloured shirts and coffee-coloured uniforms had drawn a negative reaction from field-level police members. The changes had also faced widespread criticism from both within and outside the force.
Following reviews by the Home Ministry and senior police officials, the traditional colour schemes were selected for reintroduction.
Authorities stated that the transition will not incur additional financial costs for the government, as uniforms are supplied based on availability and entitlement. The letter emphasised that the notification is required only to formalise the necessary amendments to the current dress rules.
