Police have launched a suo motu investigation after an unidentified motorcyclist breached the security cordon of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman by attaching a piece of paper to his moving bulletproof vehicle in Gulshan.
The incident took place last Wednesday at around 11:40pm on Road 65 in Gulshan, despite tight security surrounding the BNP leader’s motorcade.
Police said the motorcyclist entered the convoy, briefly approached the vehicle, stuck the paper onto it and fled the scene within moments.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam told Times of Bangladesh on Sunday night that police maintain constant shadow security for Tarique Rahman due to security requirements.
He said the Chairperson’s Security Force was present at the time, but the motorcyclist still managed to get close to the moving vehicle.
According to police, the motorcycle involved has been identified as a white Hero Hunk, although the rider has not yet been traced.
Investigators found that the paper attached to the vehicle contained no written message.
Although the BNP did not file a general diary or formal complaint, police registered a general diary on their own initiative to facilitate a detailed investigation into the security lapse.
Police said efforts are under way to identify and locate the motorcyclist and to determine how the breach occurred.
