Police have arrested Awami League leader Jamal Pasha and district Chhatra League organising secretary Shahed Ali in Jamalpur. They were detained on Wednesday night from Dhaka’s Uttara and Farmgate areas.
At a press briefing Thursday afternoon, Additional Superintendent of Police Md Sohel Mahmud said a special drive has been underway since 5th August, 2024, to arrest top-level collaborators of fascism in the district.
While on the run, the two were found to have actively participated in flash processions under the banner of Awami League at different places in Dhaka.
He added that CCTV footage and media reports confirmed the involvement of Jamal Pasha, former councillor of Jamalpur municipality and general secretary of Ward-6 Awami League, and Shahed Ali in the processions. Both face multiple cases filed with Sadar Police Station.
The police official further said that on the night of 3 August, BCL leader Shahed Ali blindfolded himself and staged a drama of abduction, broadcasting a video of the incident from his Facebook account.
