Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited the graves of his father, former president Ziaur Rahman, and mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, after completing the presidential election process on Thursday.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said Tarique Rahman went to the mausoleum in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar from Parliament around 6pm.
“Standing in front of his father and mother’s graves, the prime minister recited Fateha and prayed for the salvation of their souls,” he said.
Before the prayers, the prime minister stood silently alone for some time in front of the graves.
Later, Tarique Rahman went to the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan, where he offered Maghrib prayers and joined an organisational meeting, according to the additional press secretary.
During the meeting, the BNP chairman held discussions with party leaders from Rajshahi, Pabna and Chapainawabganj districts. Newly appointed acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was also present.
Rumon said Tarique Rahman took updates from leaders of the districts and issued various directives to further strengthen organisational activities at the grassroots level.
