Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday inaugurated Police Week 2026 at the Rajarbagh Police Lines ground in Dhaka.
This year’s theme is “My Police, My Country — Bangladesh First.” The programme will run till 13 May.
The prime minister inspected and received salutes from various police contingents and flag‑bearing units, riding in an open jeep during the parade.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Hasan Mohammad Naser Rikabdar commanded the parade.
This marks the first Police Week under the BNP government since its sweeping victory in the 13th parliamentary election.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir, and Additional IGP AKM Awlad Hossain welcomed the Prime Minister upon his arrival around 9am.
Cabinet members, lawmakers, senior officials, metropolitan commissioners, range DIGs, district police chiefs, and prominent citizens attended the colourful ceremony, which opened with the national anthem.
