Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed the opening of language training centres in the country to build a skilled workforce for overseas employment.
His Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman stated that the prime minister issued this directive during a meeting of the committee formed to expand overseas employment and ensure expatriate welfare held at the Secretariat on Thursday.
He said that to quickly arrange employment opportunities abroad for unemployed youth, the prime minister instructed the concerned ministry to open language education centres in the country staffed by both local and foreign teachers. This will enable unemployed young men and women to learn various languages and secure jobs overseas.
The meeting took place at the PM’s office in the Secretariat in the afternoon. Chaired by the prime minister, the meeting discussed various aspects of how to quickly create overseas employment opportunities. Present at the meeting were Labour and Employment and Expatriates’ Welfare Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury, State Minister Nurul Haque Nur, Prime Minister’s Adviser Mahdi Amin, Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, along with secretaries of concerned ministries and senior officials.
The prime minister’s additional press secretary said that to ensure no one has to sell their assets to afford overseas employment opportunities, the prime minister instructed the concerned ministry to arrange bank loans at low interest rates and simplify the loan application process.
The prime minister has directed the Civil Aviation and Tourism minister to introduce free WiFi at the terminals of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong, and MAG Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, similar to airports in other developed countries, the additional press secretary also informed.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has also taken initiatives to fulfill the promises made in his own constituency, the additional press secretary stated. He said that during the election campaign, the prime minister had promised to repair a temple belonging to the Hindu community located near the Mohakhali Cancer Hospital in the Dhaka-17 constituency. He has instructed that the renovation work of that temple begin next Saturday.
The administrators of Dhaka’s two city corporations, Abdus Salam and Shafiqul Islam Milton respectively, and Professor Farhad Halim Dona, Tarique Rahman’s election coordinator for the Dhaka-17 constituency, are expected to be present at 11am on Saturday.
