Petrobangla and the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology have signed a five-year memorandum of understanding to expand cooperation in education, research and technical training.
The agreement was signed on Thursday at the Petrobangla boardroom in Dhaka, with BUET Vice-Chancellor Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and Petrobangla Chairman Md Rezanur Rahman present. Petrobangla Secretary Md Amzad Hossain and BUET’s Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering Director Mohammad Shariful Islam signed the document on behalf of their respective institutions.
The partnership will allow joint research, access to laboratories and industry software, and opportunities for BUET faculty and students to visit drilling sites, seismic survey operations, processing plants and coal or hard-rock mines. Officials said this will enable academic research to be applied directly in field conditions while industry exposure will help strengthen BUET’s curriculum.
Petrobangla will share relevant data for research except information deemed confidential or sensitive to national security. The MoU will automatically renew for another five years upon expiry.
BUET, described as Bangladesh’s top engineering institution with graduates serving in senior roles at home and abroad, is expected to benefit from greater industry linkage. Petrobangla said the collaboration will help develop professional skills, support future manpower needs and expand knowledge-sharing through seminars, workshops and technical exchanges.
Both organisations said the agreement reflects a global trend of deeper industry–academia partnerships aimed at accelerating innovation and building long-term capacity.
