The Pabna Press Club, one of the oldest and most prestigious journalistic institutions in the country, marked the completion of 65 glorious years today, entering its 66th year of heritage and professional excellence.

To commemorate this milestone, a three-day colourful programme has been organised, commencing on Friday. The celebrations began at 11am on 1 May with a cake-cutting ceremony held in a festive atmosphere at the VIP Auditorium of the press club.

Grand opening and commemorative session

Addressing the inaugural session, speakers included Jahurul Islam Bishu, Administrator of the Zila Parishad; Robiul Islam Robi, veteran Freedom Fighter and former president of Pabna Press Club; Professor Shibjit Nag, former President; and veteran journalist Abdul Matin Khan.

The session was also addressed by the current President, Akhtaruzzaman Akhtar, and General Secretary, Jahurul Islam. Other notable attendees included former President ABM Fazlur Rahman, former General Secretaries Utpal Mirza and Akhinur Islam Remon, and veteran members HKM Abu Bakar Siddique, Mostafa Satej, Abdullah Al Mahmud Mannan Master, and Kamal Ahmed Siddique.

Literary figures such as poet Majid Mahmood and Comrade Zakir Hossain were also present, alongside club officials including Vice Presidents Sifat Rahman Sanam and SM Alauddin, Joint General Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman Khan Biplob, Welfare Secretary Kolit Talukder, and Literary and Cultural Secretary Yad Ali Mridha Pavel.

Distinguished guests and upcoming events

The second day of the celebrations on Saturday, 2 May, will feature a grand reunion rally departing from the Press Club premises at 10am, followed by a friendly gathering at the District Shilpakala Academy auditorium at 3:30pm.

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu is scheduled to attend as the Chief Guest, while the event will be inaugurated by Anjan Chowdhury Pintu, former president of the club and eminent industrialist.

The key speaker will be Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, lawmaker for Pabna-5.

Special guests for the second day include State Minister for Social Welfare Barrister Farzana Sharmin Putul, alongside several Members of Parliament including AKM Selim Reza Habib, Professor Abu Taleb Mondal, Mohammad Najibur Rahman, and Muhammad Ali Asgar.

Other guests include Advocate Arifa Sultana Ruma, BNP-nominated MP; Md. Sayed Bin Abdullah, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister; District Administrator Md. Aminul Islam; and Superintendent of Police Md. Anwar Zahid.

The evening will conclude with a cultural performance featuring Sadia Sultana Liza and Muhin Khan.

A legacy of professional excellence since 1961

Established on 1 May 1961, the Pabna Press Club has built a reputation for 100% professionalism and has earned the trust of all sectors of society. Over its long history, the club’s members have been actively involved in the historic Language Movement and the Great Liberation War.

The three-day event will conclude on Sunday, 3 May, with a family gathering for club members, followed by a raffle draw and prize distribution ceremony.
