A court in Sirajganj has sentenced one person to death and four others to life imprisonment for killing a businessman named Golam Mostafa in 2018.
Judge Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 in Sirajganj delivered the verdict on Monday afternoon in the presence of the accused. At the same time, the convicts were fined by the court.
The death-row convict is Tarequl Islam, son of Abdus Samad of Ranigram village in Sadar upazila.
The convicts who were awarded life imprisonment are Selim Reza, Badal, Nazrul Islam, and Saidul Islam also of Ranigram area.
Shariful Islam, stenographer of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-3 in Sirajganj, confirmed the matter.
According to the case documents, businessman Golam Mostafa, a resident of Ranigram in Sirajganj Municipality, was hacked to death at a local restaurant on the morning of October 3, 2018.
The next day, the victim’s wife Shikha Khatun filed a murder case with the Sirajganj Sadar Police Station, naming 27 people.
After a long investigation and evidence, the court announced the sentence on Monday in the presence of the accused.
