The nomination of Nusrat Tabassum, joint convener of National Citizen Party (NCP), for a reserved women’s seat in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad has been declared valid.
The announcement came Saturday morning after scrutiny of her nomination papers.
Returning Officer and Election Commission’s Joint Secretary Md Moin Uddin Khan confirmed the decision.
He said, Tabassum’s papers have been accepted as valid and will now be placed before the commission for final approval.
The deadline for filing nominations had expired at 4pm on 21 April, but Tabassum’s papers were not accepted when she submitted them 19 minutes late.
She later filed a writ petition with the High Court on 27 April seeking reinstatement of her candidacy. Following the hearing, the court directed the Election Commission to accept her nomination and proceed according to law.
