Popular Bangladeshi actress Nusraat Faria has criticised the growing practice of taking actors and actresses to court over what she described as minor disputes, calling it harmful to the country’s entertainment industry.
In a Facebook post on Thursday (13 August), Faria said repeatedly taking artistes to court was “shameful” and deeply damaging to the industry.
“This growing trend of dragging actors and actresses to courtroom over every little matter is not only shameful but deeply traumatising for our industry. It reflects just how fragile, finicky, and lightweight our show business has become,” she wrote.
Faria also criticised those who view such legal action as a sign of progress.
“It breaks my heart to see people encouraging this culture as if it represents PROGRESS. Taking every disagreement to court is not a forward thinking attitude, it is completely backward. We need more understanding, dialogue, and maturity, not more public humiliation and unnecessary legal battles,” she said.
“This is not progress. This is regression,” Faria added.
Meanwhile, Faria is currently shooting for director Mehedi Hassan Hridoy’s web film Lapatta, in which she plays the central female character. Nasir Uddin Khan and Joy are also part of the cast.
The comedy thriller is scheduled to premiere on the OTT platform iScreen during the upcoming Durga Puja.
