National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor (VC) ASM Amanullah has called for cultural change through coordinated efforts of teachers and students to ensure good governance in Bangladesh.
He made the call while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the ‘1st National Debate Festival 2026’, organised by Tejgaon College Debating Club in Dhaka on Thursday, said a press release.
A total of 64 teams, 32 from college level and 32 from university level, participated in the festival.
Addressing the debaters, Amanullah said, “We want to take Bangladesh forward through debates, learning with happiness and cultural activities. Those who have achieved success internationally should also be involved in these activities.”
He said Tejgaon College should serve as a model with cultural, language, cyber security, career and mind clubs. “We want to present this college as a model to others,” he said.
NU Pro-VC Lutfor Rahman said debates teach young people to think, question and establish their arguments through logic. “The ability to judge what is true, reasonable and merely emotional is a student’s true intellectual strength,” he said.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Tejgaon College’s acting principal Shamima Yesmin. Governing body members Anwaruzzaman Anwar and Fakhrul Islam Bhuiyan Robin were also present at the event.
