A research study on improving productivity in microcredit programmes was presented at a seminar organised by National University’s (NU) Finance and Banking Department on Sunday.
The study, titled “Corrections in Microcredit Programs for Productive Outcomes: An Empirical Study on Osmaninagar Upazila of Sylhet District,” was presented by department student Champak Kumar Barman at the university’s virtual classroom, said a press release.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (VC) Lutfar Rahman said research is the foundation of academic excellence and knowledge practice. “The research culture at National University needs to be further expanded and accelerated. Alongside encouraging teachers and students in research, opportunities should be created to present their research knowledge and experience in the academic sphere,” he said.
The Pro-VC said the study on microcredit programmes has significant implications for the country’s socioeconomic development. “I hope National University teachers and students will remain more engaged in research aligned with the needs of the country and society in the future,” he said.
Rajshahi University VC Faridul Islam, who served as subject expert, praised the student’s work. “The research is timely and significant. The student has done commendable work in subject matter, data analysis and presentation. In terms of quality, it is not inferior to research presented at other public universities; rather, it is a praiseworthy initiative,” he said.
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Nazrul Islam attended as research supervisor. Assistant Professor Tajul Islam coordinated the session, while Business Studies Faculty Chairman Sheikh Muhammad Mujahidul Islam presided over the seminar.
