Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has said that if his party comes to power, people will no longer need to take to the streets to press for their demands.
Speaking as the chief guest at the annual council session of the Forum of Diploma Engineers Bangladesh, held at the Institute of Diploma Engineers in Kakrail on Saturday morning, Jamaat Ameer outlined his party’s vision for governance and development.
“We may not be able to launch a bullet train of development within five years, but we will certainly set the express train of development in motion,” he told the audience.
Shafiqur Rahman criticised previous governments for failing to create an environment where young people could find employment based on merit.
“For the past 50 years, we have failed to ensure that our youth get jobs according to their qualifications. This is the failure of successive governments. Jamaat wants to rebuild a decaying Bangladesh with the support of its people,” he said.
Turning to education, the Jamaat Ameer vowed to reform the current system.
He stated that the education system which drags people down will no longer be tolerated. He criticised that those responsible for planning the education system send their own children abroad for studies, which he believes is the reason behind the poor state of the country’s education system.
He also accused the Awami League of promoting a culture of vanity and showmanship.
“It was the Awami League government that first introduced a culture similar to living in a house of mirrors,” Dr Rahman remarked.
