Convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Whip of the Opposition in the National Parliament, Nahid Islam, has said that there is no scope for ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina to return to Bangladesh in December, adding that the gallows are ready if she does.
He made the remarks as the chief guest on Saturday afternoon while addressing a fresher’s reception for the 2025-26 academic session and the prize distribution ceremony of an event titled “Students’ Thoughts on the July Mass Uprising”.
The programme was organised by the NSTU branch of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti at the Birshreshtha Shaheed Mohammad Ruhul Amin Auditorium on campus.
Addressing the gathering, Nahid said, “There is no scope for any ‘Apa’ to return to this country in any December. And if she returns, the gallows are ready for her, InshaAllah”.
Questioning the audience about potential developments, he noted that it appears someone is attempting to return to the country in the upcoming month of December.
He asked whether the public remains as prepared as they were during the July Mass Uprising, noting that while great generosity and forgiveness were shown previously in the spirit of ensuring justice for enemies, referencing the words of Osman Hadi, no justice has been delivered over the past two years.
He emphasised that justice has been received neither for the murder of Osman Hadi nor for the brothers and sisters martyred in July.
He asserted that when people are denied justice, the public builds resistance on their own. Describing December as a month of resistance and victory, he highlighted the victories of 1971 and 2024, expressing confidence that victory would also be achieved in 2026 and in all future Decembers.
Directing his remarks to the newly admitted students, Nahid urged them to prove that the students and citizens of Bangladesh, along with its universities, have not fallen asleep. He stated that their seniors had spearheaded the movement and that the duty of the freshers is to maintain that continuity, asserting that there will be no place for any fascist in Bangladesh’s universities or within the state.
The event was attended by Md Sarjis Alam, Senior Joint Member Secretary of NCP, Abdul Hannan Masud, MP and Joint Convener of NCP, Abu Baker Majumder, President of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, and Tahmid Al Muddassir Chowdhury, general secretary of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, as special guests. Leaders and activists of the NSTU branch of Jatiya Chhatra Shakti, alongside university teachers and students, were also present.
