The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is waiting for the green signal from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding India’s upcoming tour of Bangladesh for two white-ball series in September.

BCB Security Committee Chairman Sayeed Ibrahim Ahmed said on Tuesday that there has been no positive update yet, as the board is still working out the details of the tour.

“There is no positive update on that yet. We are still working out the details of the tour,” Ibrahim told reporters.

Due to the changed political situation in Bangladesh, the BCCI postponed India’s tour, which was originally scheduled for August 2025 as part of the ICC Future Tours Programme (FTP). Since then, Bangladesh has gone through major political changes, while the BCB has also witnessed a change in leadership.

Following the dissolution of the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board by the National Sports Council, Tamim Iqbal took charge of the ad-hoc committee and was later elected as BCB president after the board elections.

Amid political and diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring countries, security concerns were a key factor behind the postponement of India’s tour. However, Ibrahim insisted that security would not be an issue despite formal discussions yet to begin.

“Security is a primary concern for all teams, especially the major cricketing nations. We have not yet begun formal discussions with them, but we are hopeful there will be no issues if the tour is conducted properly. We will continue to ensure a safe and well-organised environment,” he said.

However, the BCB’s Expression of Interest (EOI) notice inviting bids for television and digital media rights for its bilateral home series during the 2026-27 season included the scheduled white-ball series against India, hinting at the possibility of the tour going ahead.

Ibrahim added that the BCB is trying to communicate with the BCCI through formal channels. He also clarified that the draft tour schedule prepared by the board should not be considered official yet, as the process is still ongoing.

“We are trying to get in touch from our end, considering the tour is approaching soon. We are following the formal channels for communication. The draft that has emerged should not be treated as official, as it is only part of the process,” he said.

Recently, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI that the Indian board was not concerned about the change in leadership at the BCB and would instead follow the guidance of the Government of India regarding the tour.
