Train services on the Santahar route in Bogura have been disrupted for nearly 22 hours following the derailment of the Nilsagar Express.
Although nine carriages have been removed, track repairs are still underway till filing this report at 11:30am, according to Mahfuzur Rahman, a sub-inspector with the GRP rescue team.
Santahar Railway Station Master Khadija Begum said normal operations may take at least two more hours to resume.
She added that relief teams from the Pakshi and Lalmonirhat railway divisions have been working continuously since the accident and that repairs are progressing rapidly.
The derailment has left three trains stranded at Santahar station, causing severe hardship for passengers. Since Wednesday afternoon, services to Dhaka, Khulna, and Rajshahi have been disrupted.
The incident occurred around 2pm on Wednesday near Bagbari in Hatian village, when nine coaches of the Nilsagar Express, which had departed from Dhaka, went off the tracks.
