The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has completed printing and distributing textbooks for pre-primary and primary classes for the upcoming academic year. A total of 85.9 million copies have been published for students from pre-primary through class five.
The books have been delivered to all regional education offices across the country, as confirmed by NCTB Production Controller Muhammad Abu Naser Tuku on Tuesday.
Tuku informed TIMES of Bangladesh that primary students will receive their new textbooks on the first day of school and that all preparations are complete.
He added that the board is now preparing a guideline for parents, which will also be distributed to guardians this year.
TIMES of Bangladesh contacted upazila education offices in two districts – one in the north and one in the south – to verify the delivery.
Officials from both Teknaf Upazila in Cox’s Bazar and Atwari Upazila in Panchagarh confirmed the receipt of the textbooks. They stated that local efforts are underway to ensure the books reach students on time.
In a press release issued on the evening of 16 December, the NCTB stated that completing such a large and complex task on schedule is an unprecedented achievement in recent years.
The release noted that printing and preparing over 85 million textbooks ahead of the new academic year was extremely challenging and marks a significant milestone in the history of the country’s primary education.
Consequently, it is now guaranteed that all primary-level students across the country will receive brand-new textbooks before the new academic year begins.
