Police recovered the body of a newborn boy from a roadside alley in the Chawkbazar area of the capital on Tuesday.
Police found the body around 11:30am at a narrow lane on KB Chandra Road in the Chandni Ghat area and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examination.
Sub-Inspector Md Ashraful Alam of Chawkbazar Police Station said locals informed police after spotting the body wrapped in a black polythene bag and abandoned in the alley.
“The newborn appeared to be around one day old. Someone left the baby’s body at the spot after death,” he said.
police said they collected CCTV footages from the area and trying to identify those responsible.
Investigators have launched a probe to determine the identity of those involved and the circumstances surrounding the death, the officer added.
