A new curriculum for primary-level students will be introduced in 2028 after the completion of planning, teacher training, and pilot phases, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj said on Sunday.
He said the curriculum design will be finalised within the next year, while training for teachers under the new system will be completed in 2027 and 2028.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing a meeting on the baseline report of a pilot programme aimed at improving language skills at the primary level, organised by the National Academy for Primary Education (NAPE) in Mymensingh.
He said the quality of primary education would now be assessed based on students’ actual learning outcomes. Officials involved in the education system would also be evaluated on the effectiveness of classroom teaching, he added.
Emphasising the need for improved infrastructure, Bobby Hajjaj said better washroom facilities and classrooms are essential for creating a conducive learning environment in schools.
He said the new curriculum is being developed with a focus on language, mathematics, civic education, sports, and culture. “This curriculum will not be limited to classrooms alone,” he said.
The state minister further said that future educational infrastructure, including schools, classrooms, and sanitation facilities, would be designed with a strong emphasis on learning outcomes.
He also stressed that textbook preparation must be based on the needs and context of learners. “First, we must determine for whom and in what context the textbooks are being prepared. Then we must focus on learning outcomes,” he said.
“The key indicator will be how effectively students are taught and how well they learn,” he added.
Director General of NAPE Farid Ahmad and other senior officials were also present at the event.
