The newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP), Md Ali Hossain Fakir, has issued a strong message to field-level police officers to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against extortion. He stated that strict measures must be taken to stop robbery, extortion, and drugs.
The IGP issued this directive during an online exchange of views on law and order with Superintendents of Police from all districts from Police Headquarters on Monday morning.
He said that extortion, robbery, and dacoity on highways must be stopped, urging increased vigilance on Bangladesh’s intercity from both district and highway police officials in this regard.
Giving directives to ensure safe and smooth travel for people heading home for the upcoming Eid, the Police Chief said measures must be taken to prevent traffic jams during Eid. The safe arrival and return of passengers to their destinations must be ensured.
The IGP said that people coming to police stations for services must be treated well so they can leave the station with a smile on their faces. Efforts must be made to enhance the image of Bangladesh Police by earning people’s trust through courteous behaviour, he said, adding that innocent people must not be harassed under any circumstances.
He called upon the district SPs to build a safe Bangladesh by performing their duties unitedly.
