Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md Shawkat Ali has pledged to build a city free from drugs and extortion.
He made the remarks at a ‘Meet the Press’ event at the CMP headquarters on Thursday, outlining his priorities for public safety.
Special operations will be launched soon to recover illegal firearms and arrest terrorists, he said. He also said strict action will be taken to dismantle juvenile gangs, often known as teen gangs.
“No one involved in extortion will be spared,” he said, announcing a zero-tolerance stance.
Action will be visible against police personnel involved in irregularities or crimes, he said.Transfers will no longer be the default response, as the force moves to ensure accountability, he added.
CMP Additional Commissioner Administration and Finance Wahidul Huq Chowdhury and CMP Additional Commissioner Crime and Operations Muhammad Faisal Ahmed were present.
Hasan Md Shawkat Ali assumed charge as CMP Commissioner on Wednesday.
