Activists of the National Citizen Party (NCP) staged a demonstration and human chain in front of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday morning, demanding the impeachment of the president.
NCP spokesperson Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain led the protest, joined by joint convenors Sarwar Tusher and Monira Sharmin along with other party activists.
The party’s three-point demand includes implementing constitutional reforms through the Constitution Reform Council based on a referendum, impeaching the president, and ensuring justice for victims of the July massacre.
During the protest, Asif Mahmud said Bangladesh is now divided into two camps — those supporting fascism and those opposing it. He urged lawmakers aligned with anti-fascist forces to block the president’s speech and press for his impeachment.
“We are standing here not just on behalf of NCP, but on behalf of the people of the country,” he declared, announcing that the demonstration will continue until the end of the current parliamentary session.
He stressed that constitutional reforms must reflect the public mandate expressed in the referendum on the July Charter and called for justice for those killed and injured in the July mass uprising. He urged MPs to play an active role in addressing these demands.
