Leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP) have visited Evercare Hospital in Dhaka to see BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who is critically ill.
NCP’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara, and chief organiser (southern region) Hasanat Abdullah went to the hospital around 10:15am on Saturday.
Several leaders from Hefazat‑e‑Islam also visited Khaleda on Saturday morning. The party’s central joint secretary general Junaid Al Habib and other leaders were seen leaving the hospital around 8:45am.
Khaleda, also a former prime minister, was admitted to the hospital with breathing complications stemming from a lung infection. She subsequently developed pneumonia.
She has pre‑existing complications with her kidneys, liver, arthritis, and diabetes. As a result, the situation is such that treating one ailment is adversely affecting another.
Amid this situation, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir described Khaleda’s physical condition as “very critical” on Friday. Other BNP leaders said her condition has not improved over the last two days. Doctors are considering taking her to Singapore as soon as possible for advanced treatment, if feasible.
Meanwhile, Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep concern over Khaleda Zia’s current health condition. He has sought prayers from the nation for the former prime minister.
Wishing for her quick recovery, BNP organised prayers at mosques across the country on Friday.
On behalf of the family, her son and the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has expressed gratitude to everyone for their heartfelt prayers and love for Khaleda Zia.
