National Board of Revenue (NBR) has sent a rejoinder regarding a TIMES of Bangladesh report titled “How BFIU Let a $25m Recovery Slip Away,” published on 19 September 2026. We publish the full rejoinder.

“A recent media report, published by The Daily Times of Bangladesh on 19 September 2026 under the title ‘How BFIU Let a $25m Recovery Slip Away,’ stated that the newspaper had obtained from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) copies of emails exchanged among the NCA, UKFIU and BFIU.

In this regard, the NBR wishes to clarify that it has not received any such information from the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), nor has the BFIU provided the NBR with any information concerning the matter referred to in the aforementioned report.”

Our reply

TIMES has obtained the UK intelligence copy from the NBR, and BFIU head Ikhtiyar Uddin Mohammad Mamun has acknowledged that he provided its hard copy to the NBR. This is also corroborated by the BFIU’s internal records.
