The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has launched a special registration facility to simplify the filing of e-returns for Bangladeshi taxpayers residing abroad.
According to a press release issued by the NBR on Tuesday, the new facility allows taxpayers to complete the registration process and reset passwords via One-Time Passwords (OTP) sent to their personal email addresses instead of mobile phones.
The revenue board explained that this email verification method was introduced for taxpayers who previously registered for the e-return system using biometric-verified mobile numbers but are currently unable to access those numbers while living overseas.
Application process
To avail of this service, overseas taxpayers must send an application from their personal email to [email protected]. The application must include the following documents –
• A copy of the passport.
• A copy of the National Identity (NID) card.
• A copy of the visa page.
• The applicant’s current overseas address.
• An overseas mobile or phone number.
• The date of last departure from Bangladesh.
Upon verification of the application, the NBR will enable email verification. Taxpayers can then use the OTP received via their verified email to reset passwords, complete registration, and file their e-returns.
The NBR reported that approximately 3.9 million income tax returns have been filed online so far for the 2025-26 tax year. The board has urged all individual taxpayers to submit their income tax returns online by the deadline of 28 February 2025.
