Bangladesh’s youth handball season throws off on Sunday as the TCL National Youth Men’s Handball Championship begins in Dhaka. The federation hosts the tournament at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in Paltan, with ten districts chasing the title.
The organisers split the teams into two groups and keep the format clean and competitive. Group A features Chapainawabganj, Mymensingh, Panchagarh, Kushtia and Madaripur, while Group B brings together Dhaka, Jashore, Faridpur, Jamalpur and Narail.
The top two sides from each group will progress to the semi-finals, ensuring consistency matters as much as flair. The tournament will crown its champions on 15 January, giving the young players a clear target and proper pressure.
Saturday’s press conference set the tone. Bangladesh Handball Federation general secretary Mohammad Salauddin Ahmed spoke about continuity rather than quick wins, a sensible stance in a system that needs patience to grow.
Joint secretary and organising committee member secretary Rashida Afzalun Nesa stressed planning and structure, while executive member Md Mokbul Hossain pointed to smooth operations as the key benchmark. Those comments sounded routine, but they matter in youth sport, where chaos often kills momentum.
Sponsor TCL underlined that long view. General manager Colonel SM Morshed Sarwar (retd) said, “We want to stay beside the Handball Federation for a long time.” That line carried weight because youth programmes only work when sponsors resist the urge to chase instant headlines.
The Youth and Sports Ministry and National Sports Council will also lend official backing at the opening ceremony. That presence adds legitimacy and signals that handball still holds a place in the national sporting conversation.
