NCP convener Nahid Islam, also the Opposition Chief Whip, has condemned the recent attempt to file a case against the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, which led the July uprising.
In a press release issued on Friday, Nahid Islam revealed that a case was attempted against the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, with the party spokesperson Asif Mahmud named as the primary accused for their role in the July Uprising.
However, the court rejected the case.
Nahid described this move as both concerning and unacceptable in the context of a new Bangladesh emerging from the people’s struggle.
He stated that this attempt was not merely aimed at an individual but was part of a broader political attack targeting the spirit of the July Uprising, the anti-fascist movement, and the young leaders who spearheaded it.
He further noted that the anti-discrimination student movement has now become a symbol of equality, justice, human dignity, democracy, and the fight against fascism for the nation’s youth.
Nahid argued that the attempt to harass the movement’s leaders through legal means proves that the defeated forces of 5 August remain engaged in conspiratorial activities.
He emphasised that previous attempts to suppress the movement through legal action or intimidation had failed and would continue to fail.
He called on the government and relevant authorities to take effective measures to prevent such actions and to take legal action against the defeated forces.
Nahid also reiterated his commitment to combating any fascist activities and conspiracies aimed at undermining the nation’s democratic progress.
