Moushumi is set to return to the big screen with a new feature film ‘Contract Marriage’, which explores the complexities faced by Bangladeshi migrants rebuilding their lives abroad through difficult personal choices.
The film centres on a woman who relocates overseas after separating from her husband in Bangladesh and enters a second marriage, with the narrative framed around survival, identity and social reality in a foreign setting. Director Hasan Jahangir says the story aims to highlight the dignity and struggles of women navigating life as migrants.
Most of the film was shot in the US, with the remaining portions completed in Bangladesh. Post-production work has been finalised locally, and the film has already cleared censor certification earlier this year.
According to the director, the screenplay is inspired by real-life experiences of expatriates. He noted that many Bangladeshis face hardship and adjustment issues abroad, and the film reflects those lived realities.
Contract Marriage is scheduled for theatrical release on May 15, with international screenings also planned in countries including the US and Canada. The director added that television rights have already been sold for an Eid premiere.
Alongside Moushumi in the lead role, the film also features Don, Hasan Jahangir and several others.
Originally developed as a web series, the project has since been adapted into a feature film.
