Mohammad Sirajul Islam, a student of the Sociology Department (20th batch) at Jagannath University (JnU), has been found six days after he went missing.
He was located in front of the university’s main gate on Thursday, after which his family members took him into their custody.
Sirajul had been missing since 18 June, leading to a coordinated search effort by his family, classmates, the university administration, and law enforcement agencies.
In a brief reaction following his return, Sirajul said, “I came here from Keraniganj. My mind is not working properly right now. I cannot provide any details.”
The student’s father, Abul Kalam said he received a call from an unknown number on Thursday informing him that Sirajul was at the university gate. He added that although they have not yet had a detailed conversation, it appeared that Sirajul had not been subjected to any harassment.
Meanwhile, the university administration expressed relief at his safe return. Vice-Chancellor Md Rais Uddin said the administration had been deeply concerned during the period he was missing.
He noted that an emergency meeting was held with student representatives, various student organisations, and journalists to initiate necessary measures immediately after the matter came to light.
The VC further said cooperation was sought from senior officials of intelligence agencies and the police, while a team led by the Proctor worked specifically on the matter.
