Mirza Abbas, political adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and BNP standing committee member, was flown to Singapore by air ambulance on Sunday for advanced medical treatment.
The aircraft departed Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:17am, according to his personal assistant Mizanur Rahman Sohel, UNB reported.
Sohel said the flight is expected to reach Singapore in about four hours and then Abbas will be admitted to Singapore General Hospital.
The air ambulance had arrived in Dhaka from Singapore at 9:10am. He was transferred to the airport from Evercare Hospital in Bashundhara, where he had been under treatment, and then boarded the air ambulance. His wife Afroza Abbas, son Yasir Abbas, and Evercare physician Zafar Iqbal accompanied him.
Mirza Abbas underwent brain surgery on Friday, which lasted nearly four hours, after which he was moved to the ICU.
He had been admitted to Evercare Hospital on Wednesday evening after suddenly falling ill and losing consciousness during iftar. A medical board of leading neurologists was later formed to oversee his treatment.
