Stage shows have become relatively scarce across Bangladesh amid the country’s current situation.
However, the few musical events being organised in Dhaka and elsewhere continue to feature popular singers.
Two days ago, singers Mimi Alauddin, Razib and Liza performed together at a stage show at the InterContinental Dhaka, bringing three distinctive musical styles to the same stage.
Razib is known for performing songs by legendary Bangladeshi musicians, including playback icon Andrew Kishore and rock star Ayub Bachchu. Alongside these classics, he also performs his own original songs.
Liza, meanwhile, performs her original music as well as popular songs previously sung by legendary vocalists Runa Laila and Sabina Yasmin.
Mimi Alauddin primarily performs songs composed by her late husband, legendary composer Alauddin Ali.
Speaking about the event, Razib said stage shows have become considerably less frequent, but he continues to perform whenever opportunities arise.
“Stage shows are indeed quite limited at the moment. Still, I try to take up the opportunities that come my way. I regularly perform in Dhaka and outside the capital and always try to fulfil the audience’s requests wherever I perform,” he said.
Razib added that he could have had more stage performances and said he had recently addressed some of the reasons behind the decline in a Facebook post.
Mimi Alauddin said she enjoyed sharing the stage with Razib and Liza.
“It felt wonderful to perform at the same event with Razib and Liza. I mainly sing old songs from Bangladeshi films, and I feel very comfortable performing them. The audience also enjoys these songs,” she said.
Liza also noted the decline in stage shows compared with previous years.
“There are certainly far fewer stage shows this year than in previous years. Still, I am doing a few performances here and there. Overall, the music industry and everyone associated with it are going through a difficult time. I am waiting for this situation to come to an end,” she said.
