The Michael Jackson biopic Michael continues its global box office dominance and has now earned more than $788 million worldwide, moving closer to the $800 million milestone, Variety reported.
The film continues to perform strongly across international markets and now stands on the verge of a major industry benchmark. Market analysts say the film’s momentum keeps it among the top global performers in the music biopic genre.
Over the weekend, Michael added $28.5 million from overseas markets. It now holds $468 million from international box office and $319 million from domestic earnings. The total figure still excludes Japan, where the film will release on June 12.
Industry reports show the film continues to expand its global footprint through steady international earnings. With Japan still ahead, analysts expect the total to rise further in the coming weeks.
Michael has already surpassed Elvis (2022), which grossed over $288 million worldwide. It now ranks as the third highest-grossing music biopic of all time.
With continued performance, the film now approaches a major historic target. Analysts say it could overtake Bohemian Rhapsody (2018), which grossed $911 million worldwide, if its Japan release delivers strong results.
Film analysts also note that if current trends continue, Michael may challenge the long-standing record set by Bohemian Rhapsody and potentially become the highest-grossing music biopic in history.
The film’s strong box office run continues despite receiving mixed critical reviews. However, audience interest remains strong across global markets, driving its steady climb toward record territory.
