MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Ltd is set to invest around Tk 200 crore in the National Special Economic Zone (NSEZ) in Mirsarai, Chattogram, with plans to establish a modern manufacturing facility that is expected to create employment opportunities for nearly 2,000 people.
The foundation stone of the project was laid on Sunday (July 26) at the National Special Economic Zone. Saleh Ahmed, Executive Member (Investment Development) of the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Additional Secretary, attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
MEP Hi-Tech Industrial Park Ltd Chairman Shafiul Ahmed Chaklader and Managing Director Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam Chaklader also addressed the event, while BEZA official Abdul Quader moderated the programme.
According to company officials, the new factory will be built on approximately 10 acres of land within the economic zone and will manufacture a wide range of electrical and electronic products, including electrical wires, switch sockets, electric fans, LED lamps and circuit breakers.
The company said it plans to complete the investment in phases, with commercial production expected to begin within the next year.
Established in 1974, MEP Group has long been engaged in the manufacturing and marketing of electrical and electronic products in Bangladesh. Through the new project, the company aims to develop a technology-driven and environmentally sustainable production facility capable of meeting growing domestic demand while strengthening the country’s export potential.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director Dr. Md. Jahangir Alam Chaklader said the factory would be built as a world-class, environmentally friendly manufacturing hub equipped with modern technology.
“We believe this project will not only meet the country’s increasing demand for quality electrical products but also enhance the global competitiveness of products made in Bangladesh,” he said.
Chief guest Saleh Ahmed described the investment as a significant addition to the National Special Economic Zone, saying it would contribute to industrialization, employment generation, import substitution and export diversification.
He said BEZA remains committed to providing all necessary policy and institutional support to create a business-friendly environment and facilitate both local and foreign investments in the country’s economic zones.
