Former minister Rashed Khan Menon has been shown arrested in a case filed over corruption in teacher recruitment at Willes Little Flower School and College.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order and sent him to jail on Wednesday. ACC Public Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi confirmed the development.
On 1 July, Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) Assistant Director Ferdous Rahman, also investigation officer, filed the application to show Menon arrested in the case. The court then set 8 July (Wednesday) for a hearing in the presence of the accused.
According to the case statement, despite not having the authority to form a special governing committee for recruitment, an illegal recruitment board was constituted at Willes Little Flower School and College. The board did not include the Director General or his representative, nor subject‑specific teachers. Candidates were allowed to participate without the required NTRCA certificate mentioned in the advertisement.
Even a candidate with the highest marks in the written test was not allowed to sit for the viva voce. Appointment letters and joining letters were issued before the recruitment process was completed.
The ACC investigation found that 13 candidates were appointed as teachers through such irregularities and fraud.
On 22 December last year, the ACC filed the case against Menon and 20 others. Police arrested Menon on 22 August 2024, and he has been in jail since then.
