Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed with due respect nationwide on Sunday across the country.
Tributes were paid to the greatest minds of the nation through wreath-laying ceremonies, prayers, and discussions held in various districts.
In Barishal, the day was marked with tributes at the Trish Godown Martyrs Memorial, where flowers were offered by the administration, freedom fighters, teachers, students, and political and social leaders.
Barishal Divisional Commissioner Mahfuzul Rahman, District Commissioner Khairul Alam Suman, DIG of Police Mohammad Manjur Morshed Alam, Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, and Police Superintendent Farzana Islam, along with other officials, laid wreaths to honor the martyrs.
Teachers and students from Barishal University and BM College also paid their respects.
Later, a discussion was held at the District Commissioner’s office, where speakers highlighted the contributions of intellectuals to the liberation struggle and emphasized the need to fulfill their dreams of a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
They also urged future generations to continue observing the day with the same respect.
Meanwhile, BNP also paid homage by laying wreaths at the Martyrs Memorial, with BNP leaders, including Advocate Mujeebur Rahman Sarwar, speaking about the intellectuals’ significance and unity for the country’s progress.
In Chuadanga, a discussion session organised by the District Administration was held at the DC conference room.
District Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain was the chief guest, with ADC Nayen Kumar Rajbanshi presiding.
Other speakers included Police Superintendent Monirul Islam, Bir Protik Saidur Rahman, former Principal Siddiqueur Rahman, and various other local leaders.
The event concluded with a prayer session for the martyrs.
Meherpur observed the day with wreath-laying, prayers, and a discussion session.
Floral tributes were paid at the Shaheed Smritishoudh, followed by a prayer for the martyrs.
A discussion, chaired by District Commissioner Dr Syed Enamul Kabir, highlighted the contributions of the intellectuals and called for unity in preserving their ideals.
At Tangail Maulana Bhasani University, Martyred Intellectuals Day was observed through several activities, including flag hoisting at half-mast, a mourning rally, and floral tributes at the Shaheed Buddhijibi Memorial.
A one-minute silence, prayer, and discussion followed to honor the martyrs.
In Jashore, the day was marked at the Raipada Shankarpur Memorial, where wreaths were laid by the District Administration, various political parties, and social organisations.
A special discussion session at the District Commissioner’s office focused on the significance of the day and urged collective efforts to move the nation forward.
Cumilla District observed Martyred Intellectuals Day with wreath-laying at the Martyrs Memorial and a discussion session at the District Commissioner’s Office.
Speakers reflected on the brutal killings of intellectuals in 1971 and emphasised their sacrifices for the nation’s independence.
In Netrokona, the day was observed with wreath-laying at the Freedom Fighters Memorial, followed by a discussion at the District Commissioner’s Office.
DC Saiful Rahman, Police Superintendent Tarikul Islam, and other officials attended the event. Speakers emphasised the importance of unity to prevent the nation from being deprived of its intellectuals.
