Three more children have died of measles-like symptoms in Sylhet division in the past 24 hours until Friday morning, raising the total number of deaths linked to the disease and related symptoms in the division to 151 this year.
During the same period, six new measles cases were confirmed, taking the total number of confirmed cases in Sylhet division to 1,031 this year, according to the Office of the Sylhet Divisional Director of Health.
The health office said two children died while undergoing treatment for measles-like symptoms at Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital. One of the victims was five months old, while the other was 11 months old.
Another nine-month-old child died while receiving treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, 128 new patients with measles-like symptoms were admitted to hospitals across the division during the same period.
Of them, 59 were admitted to Shaheed Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital, 60 to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital and nine to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.
Currently, 356 suspected measles patients are undergoing treatment at hospitals across Sylhet division.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 141 people have died in the division this year after developing measles-like symptoms, while 10 deaths have been reported among confirmed measles patients.
