The Bangladesh Football Federation has confirmed that English coach Mark Cox has joined the Bangladesh Under 20 team as head coach before the SAFF Under 20 Championship in the Maldives.
BFF shared the update in a post on social media. The federation said Cox’s arrival has made the team’s coaching panel stronger ahead of the tournament.
The announcement came after days of debate about the team’s coaching role. Many were unsure who would guide the side from the dugout. The discussion focused on Mark Cox and long time Bangladesh coach Golam Rabbani Choton.
BFF vice president Fahad Karim had earlier brought Cox into the picture. The English coach was given a one month deal.
However, another BFF vice president and Development Committee chairman Naser Shahriar Al Zahedi had said Cox was brought only as a consultant. He said Choton would stay in charge of the dugout.
The SAFF Under 20 Championship will start on March 23 in the Maldives. Seven teams will take part in the event. Bangladesh are in Group B. Their group also has two rivals, India and Pakistan.
