MotoGP champion Marc Marquez will miss the next two rounds of the season in Australia and Malaysia after suffering a fracture and ligament injury to his right shoulder in a crash at the Indonesian Grand Prix, Ducati confirmed.

The incident occurred when Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi collided with the rear of Marquez’s Ducati on Sunday, sending both riders tumbling into the gravel at high speed. Marquez appeared to be in significant discomfort after flipping head over heels.

Marquez, who secured his seventh MotoGP title at the Japanese Grand Prix last month, was seen hunched over on the side of the track for several minutes before managing to stand and walk away while clutching his injured shoulder.

The injury affects the same shoulder Marquez fractured in July 2020 during the season-opening Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, an incident that sidelined him for a prolonged period and required multiple surgeries.

In a statement released on Monday, Ducati detailed that Marquez had “suffered a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder.” The team added that clinical examinations and scans ruled out any connection to his previous injuries and confirmed no significant bone displacement.

Marquez may still compete at the final Grands Prix of the season in Portugal (7–9 November) and Valencia (14–16 November), but he emphasised he would not rush his recovery.

“My goal is to be back before the end of the season, but without rushing things beyond the doctors’ recommendations,” the Spaniard said. “Both my personal and the team’s main goals have been achieved, so now the priority is to recover properly and return at 100%.”
