A new political coalition, the National Democratic Front (NDF), comprising 20 parties, was officially launched on Monday in Dhaka, signalling a fresh alignment of opposition forces in the country ahead of the February national election.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the Immanuel Party Centre in Gulshan, where leaders outlined the coalition’s vision and introduced its constituent parties to the media.
The alliance is being led by Anwar Hossain Manju of Jatiya Party (JP) and Anisul Islam Mahmud of Jatiya Party (JaPa).
Other member parties include Jasad (Shahjahan Siraj), Janata Party Bangladesh, Bangladesh Jatiya Party, Trinamool BNP, Bangladesh Sangskritik Muktijote, Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Andolon, Bangladesh Muslim League, Jatiya Islamic Mohajote, Jatiya Sangskar Jote, Bangladesh Labour Party, Swadhin Party, Jatiya Swadhinata Party, Bangladesh Manabhadhikar Party, Bangladesh Sarbajanin Party and Bangladesh Janakalyan Party.
This development follows the formation of another new political alliance, Democratic Reform Alliance, which was launched on Sunday by three parties at a separate press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium in Segunbagicha.
