A court has ordered Abdus Salam, arrested in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station for allegedly impersonating the prime minister’s personal secretary, to be sent to jail. The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after a hearing on Monday afternoon.
SI Rafiqul Islam Russell of the Prosecution Division confirmed the matter, stating, “The investigation officer, SI Md Bulbul Ahmed of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, produced the accused in court. Subsequently, he filed an application seeking a five-day remand for questioning the accused in this case. The defence lawyers also argued for bail. After the hearing, the court rejected the accused’s bail application and set the next date for the remand hearing as 24 March.”
The police remand application states that during interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the incident. Preliminary investigation has found evidence linking the accused to the case.
When asked about the names and addresses of unidentified accused individuals, the accused provided incoherent statements. A five-day remand is absolutely necessary to uncover the main mystery of the case, gather information about the unidentified fugitive accused, and interrogate him regarding his used mobile phone, call details, messages, and digital communication records, authorities stated.
Earlier, on 15 March at 7am, Abdus Salam was arrested from the Agargaon area in the capital. According to case allegations, the accused Abdus Salam had long been using the identity of the prime minister’s personal secretary.
Under the guise of this fake identity, he was engaged in various fraudulent activities, including illegal financial transactions and trading appointments in various government and private offices.
When specific allegations and information against him reached various levels of the government, an investigation was started, leading to Abdus Salam’s detainment by an intelligence agency.
Based on verification and evidence of the received information, a team detained Abdus Salam early in the morning from his residence in the Agargaon water tank area.
