Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a suspected smuggler and seized ten gold bars at Darshana Railway Station in Chuadanga on Monday morning.
The detainee was identified as Alamgir Khan, 55, a resident of Mobarakpara in Darshana under Damurhuda upazila.
Lt Col Nazmul Hasan, director of Chuadanga‑6 BGB battalion, said acting on a tip‑off about gold being smuggled into India, a BGB team took up positions at the station.
As the patrol team signalled a man to stop near the border, he tried to flee but was chased and detained. A search revealed two bundles wrapped in khaki tape tied around his waist.
The gold bars, weighing 1.166 kg, have an estimated market value of Tk 2.48 crore.
BGB said a case will be filed in connection with the incident. The seized gold bars will be deposited at the Chuadanga Treasury Office.
