Unesco representatives met with Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson Mahdi Amin on Sunday at the Prime Minister’s Office, where emphasis was placed on strengthening student health protection, particularly mental health awareness and activities.
The Unesco delegation included Bangladesh representative Susan Vize and Education Chief Norihide Furukawa.
Mahdi Amin expressed interest in working on mental health-related programmes for students, according to a press release.
The meeting discussed in detail various government initiatives for the development and expansion of Bangladesh’s education system, with particular emphasis on primary education under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The Unesco representatives expressed a positive attitude towards the government’s planned “Mid Day Meal” programme and exchanged views on global guidelines regarding the matter.
Discussions were also held about the distribution of school bags, shoes and jute bags for students. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will soon inaugurate the pilot programme to deliver these gifts to students.
Various UNESCO initiatives were also discussed during the meeting. The representatives expressed their commitment to working in a planned and coordinated manner in Bangladesh.
