The long-delayed film Gulshaner Chameli is finally moving into production, nearly five years after it was first announced in 2020. The project initially drew attention with a mysterious first-look poster, with MD Iqbal attached as both producer and director. However, no visible progress followed for several years.
MD Iqbal has now confirmed that the film will go on the floors under the banner of Excel Films, with Jahangir Sikder producing the project. The makers plan to release the film during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.
The story explores politics and the darker side of elite society. It follows the life of a sex worker who faces punishment despite committing no crime. The central character drives the entire narrative.
Speaking about the film, MD Iqbal said the lead character is at the heart of the story. He described her as both the heroine and the villain, adding that the film will not feature a traditional hero.
He said the screenplay includes several twists and turns. Abdullah Zahir Babu has written the screenplay. Iqbal also hinted at some surprise casting choices but said the team is not ready to reveal any details.
Iqbal expressed hope that Gulshaner Chameli will offer audiences a large-scale and distinctive cinematic experience during Eid.
MD Iqbal previously directed Deadbody, Kill Him and Revenge. As a producer, he has backed films including Bhalobashlei Ghor Badha Jay Na, Password, Shooter and Bir.
