Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime) Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan has been withdrawn following his controversial comments.
The Police Headquarters issued the order on Saturday, directing him to report to the headquarters on Sunday.
Earlier, on 17 June, Rashidul attended a public meeting in the Laban Chara Police Station area, where he assured residents that informants’ identities would remain confidential when providing information on criminals.
During the event, he added, “If any information given to an inspector is leaked, I give my word as a Muslim that I will personally hang that inspector from this tree, and you yourselves will beat him to death.”
A 25‑second video clip of his remarks has since circulated widely on social media.
The Mahirbari Khalpar area is known as crime‑prone. Local residents complain that fear of criminals prevents ordinary people from giving information to police. They worry that if the identity of an informant is revealed, their safety could be at risk.
Later, while clarifying his statement, police official Rashidul said his intention was to secure public cooperation in improving Khulna’s law‑and‑order situation and to dispel doubts about informant safety.
