Dhaka South City Corporation has filed a case against a KFC franchise outlet run by Transcom Foods Limited in Khilgaon, accusing the outlet of using and storing an unapproved and unregistered cheese-flavoured sauce.
The complaint was filed on Monday by the corporation’s food safety inspector, Kamrul Hasan.
During an inspection at the outlet on 8 March, Dhaka South City Corporation inspectors reportedly seized two kilograms of the imported sauce that had no Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) approval.
Following the seizure, a formal complaint was lodged with the Pure Food Court.
The case has been taken up by Special Metropolitan Magistrate Nusrat Sahara Beethi of the Joint District and Sessions Judge Court, who has scheduled the accused to appear in court on 6 May 2026.
The complaint cites violations of Sections 31 and 39 of the Safe Food Act, 2013, which are considered punishable offences under Section 58 of the same law.
Atikur Rahman, identified in the complaint as the director of the establishment, has been named as the accused in the case.
The prosecution note adds that the KFC restaurant had been verbally warned multiple times in the past not to use unapproved or unregistered food ingredients.
Kamrul Hasan said that the use and storage of such products in a restaurant could pose a risk to consumer health and represent a serious public health threat.
He also confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and that if any other individuals or establishments are found to be involved, further legal action may be taken in due course.
